Fioricet
Generally prescribed in treatment of tension or muscle contraction headaches, Fioricet is a combination of acetaminophen, butalbital and caffeine.
Important Warnings:
* Check the acetaminophen content of other drugs you are taking while on Fioricet. You should not exceed 4 grams of acetaminophen per day. This includes over-the-counter medications as well as those obtained by prescription.
* Never exceed the recommended daily dose of Fioricet. If you find that the prescribed dose is not relieving your pain, speak to your doctor about alternatives. Never increase the dosage or change the dosing schedule on your own.
What should my doctor know about me before I take Fioricet?
Let your doctor know if:
* You drink more than three alcoholic beverages per day, or if you have had a previous case of alcoholic liver disease. You may still be able to take Fioricet, but a lower dose may be prescribed.
* You have porphyria. You should not take Fioricet if you have this condition.
* You have kidney or liver disease.
